What happens during a well child visit?

Our goal during well child visits is to provide comprehensive preventative care that goes beyond simply giving vaccinations. Although vaccination is important, these visits allow us the opportunity to diagnose many conditions early and prevent the development of chronic medical problems.

Some components of the well child visit include:

  • Assessment of development and learning ability
  • Autism screening
  • Counseling for parents as your child grows
  • Monitoring growth
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Safety counseling
  • Vaccinations
  • Vision and hearing screening

 Visit Schedule

Your child's first visit to the clinic should be on the first or second day after being discharged from the hospital. This visit is primarily for the purpose of assessing the baby's weight and color, discussing feeding issues, and evaluating for medical problems that can develop in the first few days of life. You should return to the clinic for periodic well child visits even if your child remains healthy.
